John Jewsbury will continue as Chairman as well as undertaking his duties as President Elect through to March 2012.
John then detailed the achievements of 2010, including wins in all the Warwickshire junior Trophies by Copt Heath Members, then the outstanding performances of new Boys Captain (for 2012) Nathan Ray who was Runner-Up in the Midland Boys and the performance of Max Martin in the Reid Trophy where he won the U13s trophy by five shots.
There were no wins in the Midland League for the Boys team, but the one success over the year was beating eventual Midland Champions Nottinghamshire in a friendly.
The prospects for 2011 will be be better and John encouraged all clubs to use the Junior Order of Merit to encourage their junior members at their club and then in competing in Opens and Warwickshire Championships.
Gareth Jenkins, Manager of the Warwickshire Coaching programmes, was unable to attend the meeting, because of his ever expanding commitments which will now include studying for a PHD. John wished Gareth well in these endeavors which will mean he will not be able to continue as Manager.
John read out Gareth's report, detailed the Computer Analysis of 26 Juniors' swings, the winter coaching which has been interrupted by the snow, and then changes for year two of what was called the Club and Coach and is now the Academy Coaching Programme.
Around 100 boys and girls are taking part and all the feedback from the first year has been learnt from, including grouping by ability (not postcodes) and splitting the work into two sessions in the Spring and Autumn.
Assessment Days will be in June/July and all clubs are encouraged to put their juniors forward and to advertise these days.
Roger Sparrow then gave a report on the Warwickshire Junior League. There are 8 member clubs for 2011 and for those wanting to join, there will be discussions for 2012. Shirley beat Copt Heath 3-1 in last year's final.
The meeting was then introduced to Andy Sullivan, just back from six weeks successful golf in Australia which has seen Andy rise to No17 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, a position which now makes him the best English Amateur in the Rankings.
Andy enthralled the attendees with an illustrated talk on how he had developed as a Junior Golfer.
He started by talking about when aged 14, and feeling he was a good golfer, he then became part of the Warwickshire set-up and soon realised that he had lots of work to do. He talked of the excellence of players such as Chris Evans (who won the first ever JOM)and Jak Hamblett, a golfer who took no notice of any criticism of his own swing technique but built on his determination and desire which enabled him to win so many championships and matches.
Andy was candid about how his then home course Purley Chase was a test that did develop his game but he urged any junior to try and play away from his or her home course as much as they could, to develop their games as he had been able to do.
He then went into detail of how his friends and fellow team members from that period played very much for each other and all developed their games because of this camaraderie so that they did feel they could beat anyone.
Andy talked of how he enjoyed his own year of Captaincy and how he had learnt from people such as Jak Hanblett about when to admonish a fellow team member or when to console them, and the losing of the Boys 6s qualifier in 2005 (by one shot) was a salutary lesson for all concerned as it was the last chance for Hamblett and Sam Foster to reach a National final.
Using one team success as another example, Andy said that playing and winning the Boys 4 Counties in 2004 in the most terrible rain and wind, was another vital point in understanding what was required to be a top golfer.
Whilst some went out to play in just waterproofs (in the continual rain) Andy had and used towel after towel and glove after glove as if he did not do so, a better prepared and equipped player would have beaten him. Andy said that preparation was everything.
Andy was very impressed when he played in the 2004 Schools with Felicity Johnson, who did use the Mens back tees along with the Boys competitors. She was the best lady he has yet played with and and she relished the challenge of competing directly with the best boy juniors.
Throughout his presentation, Andy talked only of how beneficial it was to be part of the Warwickshire Boys team and how his game improved.
The highlight was reaching the English Boys Finals at Little Aston in 2005, when the team gave their all only to be runners-up by half a point, to Yorkshire.
During that tournament Andy beat Danny Willets and in the same year he also beat Chris Woods, both then regarded as being the very best in English Junior Golf and both now substantial money winners on the European Tour.
He again remarked that on any day anyone can be beaten but a postscript to Andy's talk was that anyone who witnessed Andy's golf on the days when he beat these players, his golf would have demanded their very very best to have won.
Andy then moved to the years after he left the Junior Ranks. In 2006 he missed out (just) on all the Centenary Warwickshire Championships and then did not have the expected personal success when the Warwickshire Mens team reached the 2006 Mens County Championships finals.
He stressed that the gulf between Junior and Mens golf was significant and that it took a couple of years and much hard work before Andy started his second wave of success in winning three Warwickshire 'Trebles' and winning at National level.
His final advice was that players should prepare as best for them (without being lazy etc) and not always do what their friends want in practice etc, something Andy was guilty of sometimes over his junior career.
The next presenter was David Morgan who welcomed several new and returning participating clubs to the JOM, and he talked through how clubs can best organise how they award club points.
The Meeting concluded with John Jewsbury providing delegates with a briefing on lots of new ways in which clubs can develop their Junior Talent and how they can work with the Union. This report will be circulated to all concerned.
John Simpson (Walmley) distributed a questionnaire for clubs to find out more about how help is available for younger male members for affordable subscriptions.
John Jewsbury then announced that the Union had now adopted a Safeguarding Children Policy develop in conjunction with the Counties Golf Partnership.
Discussions from the floor in AOB included using the Schools Championships to determine the Warwickshire qualifier for the English Club Team Championship. This will be considered.
The meeting closed with thanks to Copt Heath for their continuing hospitality.
