It’s a trophy that Charlotte could and may hold for a number of years as playing of 13, it represented the best nett score of the day as well and it was a clear sign that Charlotte, together with Lauren Wayte (88) and Lauren Clarke-Hughes (90) have the potential to take over from all that has been done by recent national champions.

If Charlotte improves (in 2004) as she had done last year, an in-form Hannah will have her work cut out to take a trophy she has never won because of the dominance of Felcity. Our scratch superstar was back from having qualified very highly at a tournament in Paris and had accepted the challenge of playing as a guest from the same tees as the boys – over 6600 yards (nearly 150 yeards longer than a US Open course). Frustrated at holing nothing in an outward 42, Fliss did not manage to embarrass too many of the Boys but that was not the point of her deciding to try a very long course. It was the experience that was the reason behind her efforts, not trying to match her father Paul’s efforts in the Marathon this weekend!

Having won the Nett Trophy last year, Lucy Powell nearly replaced the cut glass of the ‘Wales’ with the silver of the Championship cup, by shooting an 87 nett 72. It was close but not close enough! Little star of the day was nine year old Ashley Cramond who made it round the 18 with a nett 91. She and Hannah McLoughlin could be the next but one rivals – after Charlotte and who decides to take on the new Schools Champion!

The team for the Midland Schools will be Hannah Coles and Stacey Edwards. Though neither played well on the day, they have the calibre of handicap that could retain the Midland Girls team trophy for Warwickshire – its going to be tough though!
