Conditions were very warm and humid and Thetford was an excellent test of golf for the Boys and Girls competing for the National titles. The joint leader from the morning round was Dale Marson (Rugby) with a 71. Sam Foster (Hearsall) was a shot back on 72 and Andy Sullivan, Midland Schools Champion for 2004 was on 72, along with Alan Glynn from Essex.
The score of 71 would be beaten by only one person in the afternoon as the CSS for the second 18 went up a shot. Glynn was that Schoolboy and with 144 he became England School Champion for 2004. Andy Sullivan is not putting quite as well as he was at the beginning of June but bar a couple of mistakes, his second round 75 was good enough for 3rd= and a place in the England team for the match against Scotland on September 6th at Southport and Ainsdale. Andy's fabulous run has taken him from 0.5 to +1.2 in barely five weeks.
Dale Marson could not keep up his form of the morning but he managed an 80 in Round 2, still a very respectable score, for 151 and 9th= - he will join Andy at Southport.
Sam Foster has been very busy with exams and not played as much as he has in previous Summers as a Junior. He matched Dale's 80, after some very positive encouragement from Dick Ferry, at Thetford to support the Warwickshire participants. That was good enough for a place in the match against Wales at Royal St David's on 31st August.
We were also represented by Chris Hazeldine, like Same Foster busy with his A Levels. Chris's lack of competitive play resulted in rounds of 81 and 78.
Chris will be back to defend his U21s title at Harborne later this month. He is too old to win the Boys Championships this year. If you are a Junior or an U21 reading this, have you entered yet? This is the Major event for the 2004 Junior Order of Merit. You can find printable entry forms on the site, or you can enter on-line and if you have a GSA number, you can pay there and then.
The Warwickshire Junior team is in action next weekend - the 11th July at Robin Hood - and then the following weekend at Brocton Hall when we take on Staffordshire - your support would be very welcome.
