The first Girls Championship run by the Midlands South Region was held at Studley Wood Golf Club in Oxfordshire on 5th August 2009. The 36 hole event was spared any rain and although a little wet
underfoot, the course proved to be a good challenge for the top girls of the six counties.
Eight Warwickshire girls entered the event with Melissa Nicol (Moor Hall) carding a sparkling 79, nett 67 in the morning followed by 82, nett 70 in the afternoon. Just edged out of winning the Nett Trophy, Melissa finished in second position and was very pleased with her game and particularly for cutting her handicap.
Hannah Pearl Wood (Nuneaton) continued her season's good form with 2 rounds below her handicap and finishing in the top ten. Gia Rhodes (Copt Heath) put in 2 steady rounds and Erika Dean (Olton) was happier with her game after her afternoon performance. This was also the case for Katrina Gani (Shirley) who bounced back after lunch to play below handicap in the second round.
Alice Young (Kenilworth), Adelle Middleton (Coventry Finham) and Charlotte Hartshorn (Nuneaton) also represented the county at this testing venue.
