The 2009 Veronica Anstey Competition, held at Nuneaton Golf Club on Monday 15th June was delayed by thunder storms but after an hours wait, the final 3 groups made it back onto the course to complete their rounds.
None of the last 6 players however could match the score already posted in the clubhouse by ex County Captain Pat Hale from Edgbaston Golf Club, who recorded the best round of the day in both Gross and Nett categories with 74 Gross - 67 Nett.
"The last time I played a round of golf like that was probably back in the 1980's" Pat said afterwards. With the competition standard scratch staying at 72 for the day, Pat had effectively played to a handicap of 1!! She was obviously delighted to receive the Veronica Anstey Trophy from President, Angela Dawson and also the beautiful glass vase donated by the competition sponsors, Rudell the Jewellers.
2nd Nett went to Elaine Proctor (Ingon Manor) with a Nett 69, with Bobbie Waugh (Moor Hall) winning 3rd Nett on the back nine from Di McCormick of the host club Nuneaton, with a score of 73
The best Gross prize went to Lisa Barton (Coventry) with score of 77 - good to see that Lisa is on good form on the run-in to County Week, commencing 22nd June.
The County would like to thank Nuneaton Golf Club for hosting this important competition and for their co-operation and organisation on the day.
