The JOYCE NICHOL TROPHIES COMPETITION 2010 - RESULTS

Coventry Hearsall was the venue for the 2010 Joyce Nichol Trophies competition, held today - 27th September. Dottie Beanland, County Captain in her speech prior to the presentation, reminded the audience who Joyce Nichols was. Whilst a member at Leamington & County GC, Joyce held office as Hon. Secretary of the County Ladies from 1955 to 1970. In recognition of her long and dedicated service the County donated The Joyce Nichol Silver and Bronze Division Trophies to be played for by members of Warwickshire ladies. A most unusual occurance is that both winners of the annual competition have their signatures engraved on the trophies and have done since 1972, the first year of the Competition.

Hearsall was playing it's full length today after heavy rain overnight, but comments from the players as they came in were that the greens were in excellent condition. Constant wetting drizzle throughout the day made playing conditions quite difficult, resulting in some low scores being posted. Is this the start of winter?!!!

In the Silver Division, Hearsall Lady Captain Jane MURPHY, handicap 15 came in with the highest points and took first prize. This was a great result for Jane as she had not officially entered the competion until yesterday when, after offering to mark a card as someone had dropped out, she was then persuaded to enter by our Competition Secretary, Hanora White. I guess she is now delighted to have said yes.

Runner up in the Silver Division was Marsha BUTTON (Nuneaton) off 7 who pipped Tracey ATKIN (Leamington & County) off 2, into 3rd place on a countback.

SILVER DIVISION

1st Jane MURPHY 35 points

2nd Marsha BUTTON 33 points

3rd Tracey ATKIN 33 points

In the Bronze Division Lisa WATTS (Atherstone) playing off 29 was the winner, with local player Myra SHEENAN off 36, Runner up on a countback, and Joy DAY (Shirley) off 23 coming in 3rd.

BRONZE DIVISION

1st Lisa WATTS 32 points

2nd Myra SHEENAN 32 points

3rd Joy DAY 31 points

In addition to the main event the ladies entered the two's competition, with only 4 two's recorded throughout the day:-

Mary UPSON (Moor Hall), Pat YOUNG (Walmley), Linda JORDAN (Harborne) and Lisa WATTS (Atherstone)

Competition Standard Scratch Score was 73 against the Course Standard Scratch of 70, resulting in Reduction Only for Handicaps.
