The golf was equally as impressive as the conditions and when the final pairing from the Warwickshire posted an excellent 37 points, the second of the day, the tension certainly mounted at the prize-giving! Pat from the Warwickshire pairing was a late substitute. Guess she was very pleased that she filled in!
At the prize giving, County President Elizabeth Earnshaw made a point of saying how much the WLCGA appreciated the support of Bob Gay in arranging for Olton Golf Club to stage this event. She went on to mention Ladies' Captain Lynda Cooper together with Jeannie Morrison, the Ladies' Captain from last year and the many other ladies, for all their preparations behind the scenes to ensure that the day went well for the competitors. Joyce Lackey ran the ball sweep for the Junior Girls and the generosity of the competitors helped to raise £ 79.00. Thanks to everyone for this invaluable support.
It was particularly good to welcome newer clubs with fairly small ladies' sections, as well as higher handicap golfers from more established clubs, enjoying a County event. Competing in your first County event is always a little daunting but hopefully Clubs are becoming more aware that County competitions are arranged for ALL Warwickshire ladies to enjoy no matter if you are playing off 28 or 8!
Many congratulations to:
The WINNERS:
Henley - Gill CLAYTON and Ena MACK - 37 points OCB
RUNNERS UP: (Commiserations as just beaten on count back)
The Warwickshire - Liz HOLDEN and Pat CALEY - 37 points OCB
FINALLY - best wishes to all Warwickshire Lady golfers for a successful, but most of all enjoyable, summer season of golf.
