The final pairing of Hannah COLE and Claire HOWELLS had an excellent match resulting in a win of 6 and 5.
We had been blessed with dry and warm conditions throughout the week thus far, but my how that changed this afternoon. Last Team out at 2.30 p.m. our matches were played in incessant rain! They battled on though and at times looked a little bedraggled, but the golf was still a very high standard from both teams.
Lisa BARTON was first out and she led the way with an excellent win of 3 and 1. Followed closely by Melissa NICHOL, she was 2 up after 10 with an up and down out of the bunker. 3 up after 13, she was on a roll eventually winning 5 and 3.
In Claire HOWELLS game, she seemed to be up one minute, then all Square and then down by 1, which was the score after 17. She narrowly lost on the 18th.
Hannah COLE had another win on the day ending her match on the 17th, 2 and 1.
14 year old Charlotte TAYLOR, ably assisted as Caddy by elder sister Lauren, was All Square after 5 holes but by the 13th was 4 down. Was she beaten? - not her. She won the 14th and 15th and was 1 down by the 18th Tee. A fantastic drive followed by an iron shot very close to the pin, she halved the match. What a display from one so young, having 5 birdies in her round!!
Last out today was Liz HAYCOCK who started out very well with an eagle 3 on the 4th followed by a birdee on the 5th when she hit the flagstick with her tee shot. However, luck was not on her side in the following holes, and she eventually lost on the 17th.
The day's play meant that Warwickshire won the day by 5 1/2 matches to 3 1/2.
After the winners, Northamptonshire with 4 points and 28 game wins had been presented with the Trophy, our County Captain, Dottie Beanland commented " Our team showed true grit and determination throughout the week, but 2011 was not be our year. It is great though that there is such new talent emerging, especially when you think that Melissa, who was playing in her first County Match Week (and gained her County Colours) by playing 8 matches and winning 7 whilst halving one". Rachel RUSTED also gained her colours. Continuing, Dottie added " The camerarderie within the team is fantastic and everyone plays for each other".
