As imagined the scores were not as we have come to expect in this prestigious Championship but were wholely understandable. To anyone who managed to come in under 80 Net - well done as that was some achievement.
The two Trophies being played for were 'The Daisy Harthill Cup' for the team scoring the best Net and 'The Chipman Cup' for the team scoring the best Gross.
Scores were entered on the Board as players came in from the wind and right until the last minute, the Home club, Harborne were in the lead for the Net prize. They were pipped by Atherstone Golf Club by just 3 shots, who scored an impressive 402, leaving Harborne GC in joint 2nd place with Edgbaston GC. The winning team were Sue Kosniowski, Truda Thornton and Sue Starmer, Sue Lord and Caroline Hastilow (pictured)
In the Gross section Copt Heath GC were the victors, scoring an excellent 436, some 5 shots clear of Nuneaton GC. The winning team (pictured) were Claire Dowling, Liz Moverley, Jane Jone and Marilyn Fielding plus Trish Grant who played early in the morning. Also pictured were County President, Elizabeth Earnshaw, County Captain, Dottie Beanland and Sponsor's wife Pam Brannan (Stratford).
County Captain, Dottie Beanland congratulated everyone for turning up and playing on this day with particular congratulations to the two winning teams.
In addition she thanked everyone at Harborne GC for their help and co-operation in making this day such a success. When speaking of the course, Dottie mentioned that the Greens staff had prepared a very well manacured golf course with very slick greens, which I have to say fooled many of us players.
A very special Thank you from the County was given to Bob Brannan, Managing Director of DUFERCO, a steel company from Stratford, who stepped in at the last minute to spon sor the prizes for 2011.
