Ultimately she talked to clubs to enable them to take them on as members and as Dottie Beanland, County Captain said in her tribute to Sylvia "Her talent was in doing all this by herself and we think she was the forerunner of how girls and boys are encouraged into golf today"
In 2004, when Sylvia's health was not too good, she gave up the role as Organiser, but her great interest in junior golf manisested itself in her continuing in the role as Team Manager, overseeing the Junior matches.
During her time such notable juniors who she has nurtured through their early golfing years have included Felicity Johnson, who now plays successfully on the LET Tour, Hannah Coles who recently completed her golf studies in America and Abbey Gittings, who is still studying in America. The Mallet girls - Elizabeth and Victoria and the Taylor girls - Lauren and Charlotte have all played for Sylvia's teams.
Dottie concluded by saying "We - the County, the Parents, the Girls and the Members - all pay tribute to your years of commitment Sylvia and we wish you well in the future." Sylvia was then presented with gifts from the County (pictured with Dottie)
Her successor will be Carol O'Hare from Shirley GC, who has been working with the Junior Girls, both at Shirley and for the County over the past year.
