At the Sutton Coldfield Sports awards presentation on 28th January 2012, Sylvia Evans was presented with the Gemini Lifetime Achievement Award. Sylvia has been a member at Sutton for 43 years and for some 21 of those she has been involved with County Golf, particularly at Junior level. As Junior Organiser from 1991 to 2004 she worked tirelessly for the County and played a very important part in encouraging young girls into golf.....
In the early days she actually visited schools within the region to encourage young girls to come and 'try' golf, and then liaised with Club Professionals at local clubs to bring them into the clubs for lessons. Ultimately she talked to clubs to enable them to take them on as members.
In 2004, when Sylvia's health was not too good, she gave up the role as Organiser, but her great interest in junior golf manifested itself in her continuing in the role as Team Manager, overseeing the Junior matches. She retired from this post in November 2011.
We wish her well and congratulate her in receiving this prestigious award.
