'It was nice to see Tom back - he's had a bad run and coming back and winning, and probably assuring himself of a place in the Boys team,' said Chairman of Junior Golf John Jewsbury.

Tom was the model of consistency, with just two bogies and two matching birdies in his level par 68 around once of Warwickshire's very oldest and most amenable golf clubs. His efforts were not only rewarded by a substantial voucher but he will also play off 3 once again when he next tees it up.

Best Nett on the day produced the biggest cheer in the clubhouse as that prize went to home club junior Sam Quinn, one of near 70 younger players at the club and a testament to the ongoing commitment of Rugby's Junior Organiser Danny Ramshaw and his team.

'Sam Teather has gone through some major swing changes - its nice to see its working,' continued John Jewsbury, whilst Ryan Wallace and Rob Holland are showing their usual form.

After a second place at the schools, it was a second runners-up spot in two days for Ryan Wallace, beating Teather and Holland on the back nine. They combined with Thomas Jones to form the Walmley Team and by one stableford point (total 111) to pip Olton Golf Club to the place in the English Junior Club Finals, to be held at Burghley Park on 8th and 9th August.

'15 year old Chris Fisher is new to the scene and I expect to see more of him in the future,' said John Jewsbury of the other notable performances, 'Whilst Louis Pett played well and Will Smith finished with a 71, despite his two stroke penalty for being late on the tee - he would have finished in the prizes otherwise.

'Max Martin won the gross for the U14s and Sam Quinn and debutant Morgan Jackson also caught the eye.'

This was already the second occasion that Rugby have hosted a Union event in 2009 and their Captain presented the prizes, remarking on the lifestyles that Boys should stay well away from if they want to follow Tiger Woods a reach the highest levels.
