Sullivan was dissatisfied with 'a whole heap of putts' when trying to defend his Berkhamstead title, and hit 33 greens to produce two 73s which left our best player just about in the Top 10 but not happy.

Andy's 16 greens at Finham once again were added to by another 30+ putts but his three under par 70 - and the resulting 39 stabelford points - was two clear of Boys Captain Jamie Carney. Now equipped with some very solid striking, he is looking forward to the Lytham Trophy this month, then the English Championships in May.

Runner-up Carney has been of impressive form lately, but his 62 (-8) at Moseley came a day too late to make it into next week's Peter McEvoy Trophy. He will be amongst the favorites for 2009.

Four bogies were beaten by five birdies to give Jamie a 72, and a handicap now of +.03. He has spent the winter working on his swing under the guidance of Shirley Professional Stuart Bottrill, whilst playing games against the toughest of competition in Matt Morris, Tom Whitehouse and Rob

Steele - Morris caddied for Jamie in the Trials ('A great help - getting me round' said Jamie.)

In third was Coventry's own Charlie Higgins who like Sullivan hit 16 greens in regulation. His handicap of 2.2 will be going down very quickly.

Fourth went to Sam Foster, now preparing for his first year of accountancy exams. Fifth was Stuart Bloxham (Maxstoke) and Paul Randle took sixth with a 74 (35 points).

Some new (old) faces made a re-appearance - Jack Sant back in top level golf with another 74, whilst Lloyd Jones fresh from his gritty performance in last weeks match against Leicestershire shot the same score and there were good performances from Juniors Jonathan Bryan, Tom Ibbertson (playing in this year's McEvoy) and Michael McCormack.

With very little top level golf that all our best players can enter this April (the ballot for the Lytham and similar trophies is very low), County Captain Louis Meryon will wait until the Warwickshire Amateur in late May before he decides on his team for the County 6s Midland qualifier at Sandwell Park on 20th June, and the first Midland League Matches on 7th June.

He may well have several Juniors to consider, even though they will be committed to the Junior equivalent three weeks before at Maxstoke Park.
