Karl Smith then handed in a 70, level par, having been in a bit of a 'battle royal' with 14 year old Max Martin. Max was -3 after 10 and then proceeded to drop 6 shots in the next 8, whilst Karl was -3 after 12.
County Captain Dave Westwood had the pleasure of watching another star of the future as he found himself paired with 16 year old Daanyal Spalding - they shared the honours with 33 points apiece.
The next person to challenge Bloxham was his fellow Coventry Hearsall member Tom Ibbertson. Tom was again -3 after 10 then dropped a shot at 11th only to get it back at the next. He came to the 17th -3 and finished bogey, par, for a 68 and 38 points.
That would be the clubhouse lead until the last three-ball handed in their cards. It was challenged by Second Team skipper Neville Gardner who was unique in turning in level par. Neville then made 3 at the 10th and 12th and bar another bogey at the 17th, he would have matched the 38 from Ibbertson. Neville though did lose 0.4 on the day from his handicap, as some consolation
The man who did equal it was Rob Browning, and would take the first place voucher on count-back. Rob was like Neville, not 'up-with-the-pace' after bogeying the short 9th for -1 at the turn. He did though play the back nine in 34 for 68.
The prizes were presented by Harborne Club Captain George Whitehouse and it was the first championship to be managed by our new County Secretary Matt Nixon. The Trials ran as smoothly as ever!
