With 15 minutes to tee off time we were one player short and some frantic phone calls were being made by Neville, Elliot Forbes steeped forward and hastily gathered his kit together to meet his tee off time.

First out was Doogs and myself and following my drilled 3 wood from the tee which must of flown all of 180 yards, to have any chance of reaching the green Doogs needed a driver off the deck for his fist shot of the day, needn't have worried as he proceeded to hit this to the middle of the green, great start as we went onto win the hole. Never down again throughout the match going on to win 3&1.

Anthony & Steve out next and in Anthony's words were not at their best but using all of the pairings years of experience managed to force a half showing that you do not have to play your best golf to put points on the board.

Chris & Rob soon found out that when playing Kenilworth fairways hit are a must coupled with playing against a good pairing this game was soon out of reach finally finishing with a 6&4 loss.

Nev & Ryan had a great tussle up against their very experienced opponents both regular 1st team players, close for all of the game and as it was a friendly I will say a half was a fair result.

Out last was on the team sheet at least our second pairing Elliot & Karl, due to a late start were 2 down before a shot was hit but a determined pairing fought back with Elliot holing every putt he looked at and securing a hard fought half point to square the morning session.

Singles started with Doogs out first still playing solid golf, close all the way round until an unexpected lost ball on 17 from the tee cost Chris the hole and this was enough for the point to go to BB&O following a par from both on the last hole.

My turn next and some steady golf with fairways and greens hit, not so good with the putter though as many missed chances from both sides but I was able to win this game 2&1.

Ant Gascoigne next and his vast experience came through hitting all but one green in regulation this was more than enough good golf to comfortably win the game 5&4

Steve Creed out at number four, again this was a very close game with two loose holes that made the difference to this game and his opponent closed out the match with a par on the last.

Karl was up against a local player in this match as the BB&O player is a student at Warwick University and the team use Kenilworth as the home club,

Karl looked in a strong position following a birdie on 16 but an aggressive put on 17 led to loosing the hole and going up the last all square, with both players hitting the green it was who could make the winning put, both were close but none found the bottom of the cup so another half point for both teams.

Chris Staite & Rob Holland found tough opposition as the BB&O team have some good strength right through the team with most being regular first team players, Ryan also came across a player who 'had far too many birdies' so all three games went to the away team to give the BB&O the win

So the last two games were going all the way to the 18th, Nev came puffing and panting up the last after pushing his trolley for 12 holes due to a flat battery, my encouragement of at least it has been good exercise didn't go down too well especially following a birdie two at the last from his opponent to secure yet another point to the wrong side.

Finally Elliot looked like an early finish as he was 4 down after 10 holes, but the home player had other ideas as he started his fight back with a few birdies and the rest pars standing on the last one down Elliot hit a tee shot straight at the hole that finished 10ft past, so with his opponent safely hole side for his par Elliot faced a down hill 10 footer to halve the game, this was banged into the back of the hole and following a second or two teetering on the edge of the hole (showing the

Warwickshire bear for the crowd) this fell into the cup for a much deserved half.

Final score then was a convincing victory for BB&O, 7 to 3 for the singles giving an overall result of 9.5 to 5.5

My thanks to Neville for his help in getting the side together particularly on the day with a late call up to Elliot.

I hope everyone enjoyed the day and to the newer members of the team I hope you gained some useful experience for future call ups.
