Chris Dougill and Rob Browning were hoping their on-course sat-nav was more efficient than the one in their car -it wasn't and a 4&3 loss was the result despite the home pair shooting under-par golf.
Dale Marson and new partner Tony Gascoigne had an eventful 18th but never really looked liked losing after a three-three-three start.
Old wardogs Gareth Jenkins and Ian Stranks were in a ding-dong tussle against the Derby captain and his partner and a solid up and down on the 18th secured them their game.
Dave Westwood and Karl Smith were outplayed in the final game and lost 5&4.
Our foursomes performances this season have been a bit more erratic and it was useful to take a lead into the afternoon singles.
Rob at his customary No.1 slot eased to a 4&3 win and this was soon followed by Andy, Sam and Chris all registering wins. The news for the back was also positive and with the result in the bag we needed to work on our goal difference so every point counted.
Dave and Dale were up against some useful opposition and couldn't turn their games around but Gareth, Ian, Karl and Tony all did the business to record our most comprehensive singles performance of the season.
The final result was 11-4 in the home sides favour and with Shropshire also winning the season may well come down to the final game at Olton in October.
Many thanks to Graham Hayes, John Powell, John Stubbings, David Morgan and Jim Dean for their support on the day.
Our next game is against Worcestershire at Gay Hill on the 4th September
