'I only made three birdies all day, and my start to the last nine was terrible', said the eventual U14s Champion who opened with a 75, five over par on the newly revamped North Warwickshire course with two tees per each of its nine holes to give a more varied challenge to members and visitors alike.

That was good enough for a three stroke advantage over 11 handicapper Jonathan Kirby from Walmley. Jonathan continued his good form into the afternoon to take the Runner's-up slot with a final nine of 40 for 118.

Max had three competitors also with a Category 1 handicap but none of them could mount a serious challenge and his fellow Copt Heath member Stefan Gnyla was terribly disappointed with his opening round of 80.

'The last round of 36 was much more like it', said Stefan of a nine holes which pushed him right up the field and gave him the U12s.

'I hit a 54 degree wedge over the green to begin my last nine, then from there I four putted', said Maxwell of his start and a disaster of a hole to give everyone some hope, but non one could mount a serious challenge of the likes Stefan did, but he was too far back.

Max now packs his clubs away for the rest of the holidays - ready to come back in September to join the rest of the U14s squad for their team championship
