This was our first match of the season and team captain Daniel Lane together with Luke Allen got the match started, and despite a brave comeback after a poor start they lost their game 2/1.
It was the same story in the second match where Iain McKay and Finlay Mason went down by the same score whilst third pair out Jamie Calvert and Tom Jones who had previous experience of playing together won 5/3
A new pairing of Callum Reay and Ben Higgins never got in the game losing by 5/3. It was then the turn of the under 14s pairing of Andrew Hooper and George Gill who went down went down by 5/3 whilst the other under 14s pairing Josh Davenport and Alex Wilson evened things up winning 5/4
This all meant that after the foursomes overall we were losing by 4 games to 2.
The singles got underway in the afternoon belatedly as thing were slow due to weather conditions. Our captain Daniel Lane (Pictured) was playing Robert Burleson, a scratch golfer on the England coaching scheme, but Daniel, playing super golf in the conditions, beat him 6/5,This seemed to spur on the Warwickshire players as they all responded.
Iain was 4 up then went back to level before 'turning up the burners' again winning 3/2 then Luke had a putt to win his match on the 16th but the wind got the ball taking it well past the hole.
Luke then had to wait for what seemed like an eternity as his ball would not stay still, and of course he missed but his opponent did not and won the hole.Luke retained his composure however and managed a half.
Then the fun started. Finlay had a very tight game but in the end won 2/1, Jamie won 7/6, Tom won 5/4, Ben won 9/7 - I did not see any of this game but Ben was obviously on song.
Callum came from 3 down to get a half. That meant the under16s had not lost a singles match winning 6 and having 2.
The under 14s singles started with Andrew staging a fightback after being 3 down to win 3/2 after which George also staged a comeback but it was not enough and he lost 2/1
Josh won by 3/2 and Alex by 8/7.
All in all a good start for Warwickshire winning 12/6!
