A second round 71 kept Andy ahead but he struggled like most in very difficult third round conditions and was joined by a number of other top international players including Daniel Nisbet from Australia and fellow England cap Steve Brown who plays out of Wentworth.
The lead changed hands many times over the final round with Brown birdying the 14th and 15th to set the clubhouse lead at -5.
Andy needed a birdie-eagle-birdie finish to win and that is exactly what he did. He holed from 10ft at the 16th, hit a rescue club 263 yards onto the 17th green and holed there from 20ft and then stuck his 7 iron approach to just 4ft at the last.
'I really didn't want to go into a play-off. I just saw what I need to do and went for it and I can honestly say that was the most nervous I've ever been over a putt, the one at the last', said Andy
'I normally don't feel anything like that pressure but I just hit hit it good.'
Andy has stayed in Scotland to play the St Andrew's Links this week, starting on Friday and then next week is the 'big one', the British Amateur, to be held at Hillside and Hesketh.
The win at Scotland jumped Andy five places to No 10 in the WAGR. He has no points to defend from the Links trophy so another good performance and he will find himself close to the Top 5 which is dominated by Americans.
