Radisson is one of the modern success stories in the hotel and leisure industry, it's first hotel was opened in Denmark in 1960. The group expanded into Europe, the Middle East and also Africa, and by early 2006 had one hundred and fifty properties in over forty countries.
Due to the location, the Radisson SAS Hotel at Disneyland is aimed at the leisure and family market, it is close to the golf, the attractions of Disney, and also the outlet shopping centre, La Vallee Village, which has all the designer stores in one location, and open seven days a week.
For those wanting a day or evening in the city, Paris is within easy distance, and is always a delight to visit.
There are obviously other types of guests being catered for, because the conference facilities provide everything that could be required, the hotel is divided into distinct areas, with a vast conference area of 1200 sq metres, with session rooms and the provision of meeting and event co-ordinators.
Our first requirement was to seek out the golf course, which is adjacent to the hotel, and confirm the tee reservation, a very respectable ten o'clock in the morning.
Golf Disneyland is a twenty seven hole complex, comprised of three loops of nine holes, Rouge, Bleu and Orange. Our designated course was to be Bleu and Orange, as the Rouge nine were undergoing maintenance. At first glance it is clear that there has been very positive use of the system of water courses and lakes, with sleepered bunkers and fast true greens, making it very pleasing on the eye.
The group teeing off before us, were local members, extolling the virtues of their course and promising to ask how we had enjoyed our game, so after wishing us Bon parcours, they set off.
The course is a typical resort style layout, generous fairways, with large often decorated bunkers, with sleepers and bridges, an abundance of lakes, and decorative water falls cascading beside the fairway, and ample supply of flowering shrubs.
The course proved most enjoyable, not the most arduous, but in the Spring sunshine a real pleasure, and with good scores on the card, most satisfying. We were able to report to our French golfers, when we met at lunch, that it had been tres agreeable
With a day to visit the attractions of Disney, the sumptuous breakfast was taken early, so that there was time to see the Wellness Centre, there is a fully equipped fitness room, sauna, hammam, massage and treatment rooms, and an indoor swimming pool, everything the fitness fiend could desire.
The courtesy bus delivered us to the entrances of both the theme parks, Disneyland and Walt Disney Studios. Modelled on the parks in California and Florida, there was an instant feeling of d?j? vu. Nevertheless it was time to cast off the shackles of maturity, and return to our childhood, which proved to be easily accomplished. So much so that it was well into the evening before we departed, having suffered the final indignity of dining at one of the eating houses, a trauma after dining so well for the previous weeks.
The consolation is that as a result, in addition to the excellent restaurant in the hotel, we enquired and found out several good restaurants nearby, Le Relais de Guerantes, Le Cheval Blanc at Jossigny, and La Bonne Marmite at Villeneuve le Comte.
The hotel is very convenient for the numerous Channel crossing points, and on the return there are many interesting places to visit, particularly if there is any interest in the Normandy of World War 11.
Arromanches, Omaha Beach, Pegasus Bridge, all have museums to commemorate some of the bravest actions in the terrible conflict, and which for our generation, create so much emotion. However, on this occasion we chose to drive to the beautiful seaside town of Honfleur, famous for it?s harbour and seafront restaurants.
The only difficulty was which of the many to chose from, mouthwatering menus screaming out for attention. Our choice was the Brasserie Deux Points, alongside the harbour, where the food was delicious, fresh and perfectly cooked. The final treat before the short drive to Ouistraham and the Britanny Ferries evening service back to Portsmouth. The end of a marvellous few weeks.
