Sixty players, including the Chinese Ambassador, competed over 18 holes of Redbourn's scenic and testing 6,500-yard, par-70 Ver Course, that offers magnificent views over the rolling Hertfordshire countryside and is owned by Burhill Golf and Leisure, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator.

A further 15, meanwhile, honed their games under the watchful eyes of Redbourn's friendly team of PGA Professionals at the club's first-class academy, which includes the nine-hole, par-3 Kinsbourne Course and covered, floodlit 20-bay driving range.

Taking the honours in the main Stableford competition were Youge Cheng (48 points), who won the men's event, and Elisa Shen (44) who claimed victory in the ladies' group. Lilly Li landed the award for most improved player at the golf clinic.

His Excellency Mr Liu enjoyed a good round scoring 32 points and afterwards was on hand to present the prizes before taking his seat for a two-course meal.

Tristan Hall, General Manager of Redbourn Golf Club, said: 'It was a tremendous honour to welcome the Chinese Ambassador, His Excellency Mr Liu, to Redbourn for this prestigious golf day and host his business colleagues.

'I hope this successful inaugural event at Redbourn went some small way to helping foster even closer relations between the UK and China, and we look forward to welcoming back the party again in the future.
