'When I was in Abu Dhabi earlier this year I as heading for the driving range at about 5am before my round and I passed a young player in the lift who was just leaving the gym!' said Broadhurst.
The Atherstone golfer knows that talent alone - and he has it in spades - will not see him through what might be his twilight years on the European Tour. To keep up with the powerful young big-hitters he needs to keep in shape. But if aerobics aren't for him - 'family comes first before spending hours in the gym' - he needs to do something to stay supple.
It is, after all, now widely acknowledged that flexibility is what generates the all important clubhead speed rather than strength. Tiger, of course, has both! With this in mind, Broadhurst is even pondering returning to the exercise regime that once helped save his career. In 2003 Broadhurst, suffering from a debilitating injury, thought is playing days might be over for the second time in his career.
A crippling wrist injury in 2000 nearly forced him to quit the game. Staffordshire-based physiotherapist Steve Harris had helped him recover on that occasion and he ended 2001 and 2002 in 157th and 141st place on the European Order of Merit respectively.
Hardly setting the world alight for a man who had won four tour events in his first six years and had been unbeaten on the winning European team in the 1991 Ryder Cup. In 2003 he improved, finishing 89th in Europe but still dissatisfied with is game. That is when he returned to Harris at his Tamworth clinic and was introduced to exercises that he had never encountered before.
The BodyGolf Exercise Programme, specifically designed for golfers. This time, rather than focusing on strength, Broadhurst had to concentrate on suppleness.
'I was injured at the time and struggling with an elbow injury which meant I was unable to practice.
'I spoke to Steve and he assessed me before devising a work-out programme. He monitored my progress for a few months, testing my flexibility and concentrating on specific areas where I was inflexible.'
It can not have been mere coincidence that Broadhurst's game started to turn around and by the end of the 2004 season he was 44th in the European Order of Merit having enjoyed five top ten places - including the British Masters at The Forest of Arden - and a handful of others just outside the top ten.
'It was due to me being in a better physical state,' he adds. 'It was not that I was lazy or overweight. Generally, I was fit but I think the increased flexibility in my body allowed me to practice more effectively.
'Everyone practices hard but the work I did with Steve added a new dimension to my game both in practice and in play.'
After two months on the BodyGolf programme, Broadhurst was re-assessed and showed significant improvement in both flexibility and strength throughout his body. Broadhurst's increased flexibility took his game to new levels and in April 2005 he won the Portuguese Open, his first tournament victory for eight years. He closed the year ranked 22nd in the order of merit.
Remarkably, 2006 proved even more successful and in April he retained the Portuguese Open crown. There followed a string of results - seventh in the Quinn Direct British Masters at The Belfry; second in the Wales Open at Celtic Manor and eighth in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews.
He had, at one stage climbed to fourth in the order of merit and into the world's top 50, missing out on a place on the European Ryder Cup Team by just one place.
Harris recalls the dedication Broadhurst showed during his recovery.
'Paul worked hard on the flexibility and strengthening exercises for the arms to rehabilitate his elbow injury,' says Harris, who is now working with other top golfers, who want to increase their flexibility. 'This rapidly regained the strength and durability required and the injury has not recurred.
'It is extremely rare for a professional golfer to suddenly improve as much as Paul clearly has at the age of 38 through to 41. Obviously, He is a very naturally talented golfer but in 2004 he had become surprisingly stiff and, in places, weak.
'Once the flexibility and strength returned through The BodyGolf Exercise programme, he was able to fulfil his full potential.'
