That looked unlikely when Harry had a very short putt to go dormie two up on the 16th. All watching thought the putt well struck but it finished on the lip on the opposite side of the hole to Harry, defying gravity by not falling back and down.
This may have been because of the wetness of the whole course - of every course in our County - and once again Walmley are to be congratulated for all the efforts they put into getting their greens in such good condition after another night's heavy rain.
Harry found the trees on the 17th but still nearly made the par he need to take a lead to the 18th. As it was, Ben took that hole to set up trying to beat another Ibbertson.
It was close throughout their semi-final, with Ben responding every time Tom went ahead until Tom finally created a two hole lead.
At the bottom of the draw, Michael McCormack too his first round 3&2 against Walmley's Jack Ronan, whilst Rob was winning by the same margin against Ryan Wallace, with under par golf.
In their semi-final, Rob was soon ahead with Michael often practicing a new swing alteration which obviously wasn't working properly yet. As a past Mens Matchplay Champion, Michael was never going to 'lie down' and despite losing the 10th to go four down, it took until the 15th before Rob booked his place in the final.
