The first speech of the night came from Norman Forest, the President of the EGU. In a warm, subtle and very self effacing speech, Mr Forest told of his golfing abilities, his home club and of joining Royal Lytham and St Annes, in a number of hugely entertaining stories.
The response then came from our President, Mr John Duncombe. Your President covered the successes of the Juniors and Seniors before then handing over the presentation of a number of Midland Golf Union trophies to our players, to MGU President Jim Dean,
Firstly, with a record score of near twice those gained by the Runner-up, went the MGU Order of Merit Medal to Nuneaton's Andy Sullivan.
The next presentations were to County Captain Louis Meryon of the Midland League 1sts Trophy and the Daily Telegraph Salver, followed by Louis making his own presentations of winners medals to his team.
Up then came Second Team Captain Pete Clarke to receive the Midland League trophy for the Second League and he in turn introduced his unbeatable team
Finally, your President then gave out the vouchers for the Warwickshire Order of Merit, with the winner being James Bromley of Coventry Hearsall.
It was then left to comedian Ian Richards to conclude the evening with his wit and raconteur skills. As mentioned before, the officials were the subject of much material as were his father and his wife, and none will forget the flymo joke.
Your President and Mr Forrest both made specific mention of the support of each individual club to County and to English Golf, for which all are very grateful. The last thanks was to Copt Heath for again hosting the annual dinner in such splendid fashion. Both Copt Heath's Captain John Francis and their President Nigel Thomas were top table guests.
