Andy led after opening rounds of 71 then 65 and 64. His front nine of the final eighteen was all pars -

'I was playing OK', said Andy, 'Then I bogied 10 and 12 - two poor drives cost me.'

He got one shot back with an 8 iron approach to the par five 14th and when faced with the last three, was still one behind.

'I hit five wood then 6 iron to the 16th', said Andy, of an approach to four feet then on the 17th, he needed eight iron for a green which is violently downhill and always difficult to club to, 'That went to 8ft - past the hole - and I sneaked that in. I had two for it on the 18th.'

Andy will join the County 6s squad this Wednesday in a practice round for the qualification for the English County Finals. he is also in the team for the opener of the Midland League for 2010, home against Staffordshire at Copt Heath.
