Nathan was round in an approximate 71 to have that lead, having disposed of Ian McKay 5/4 in the Quarter Finals then beaten Dan Spadling by two holes in the Semis -
'I was up then gave him back some holes with silly shots - then I eagled the 16th and two pars on 17 and 18 and I was through', said Nathan of that adventure.
Michael beat fellow Boys team member Louie Pett by 2/1 in his Quarter final then had a more comfortable passage through the semi-final when beating Daniel Lane 5/3.
With nine holes left, the lead was still 2up after Nathan birdied he 9th. He put himself in a much better position on the 10th from the tee and would have gone further ahead if it weren't for a brave chip and putt from Pell.
Michael took the 11th when he missed the 11th but got up-and-down again then gave that hole back when he made a hash of the 12th. He did hit the par three 13th but only made a half and from a greenside bunker at the next he could not match Nathan's near perfect approach.
Nathan nearly drive the short par four next only to see his ball catch the lip of the greenside bunker throwing it 60 yards back down the hill. Michael however played an indifferent iron lay-up and then stubbed his wedge approach so that he was barely inside Nathan (after two) who then finished the match by sticking his chip to 10ft.
'It will be something to polish!', said a chirpy Ray after he had received his trophy. Since he was runner-up in the old U11s Nathan has come close on many occasions to a major title, the nearest being his Runner-Up finish in last year's Midland Boys. This was a perfect finish to his junior career, not one of day-in-day-out golf like most as he has been working for Antony Gascoigne for some time - on a full-time basis.
'I was very good from tee-to-green', laughed Nathan in his finishing comments, 'A bit of an animal really - but the putting needs work ...'
