Our team contains County and Midland Champions, players who have had progressive seasons on the national amateur circuit. They are also exactly the same team who broke all sorts of records to qualify for this final, doing so with the sort of golf that can beat anyone - mercilessly guarding and accumulating pars and birdies under the toughest format of golf around. And when they played a bad shot that day, the next one wasn't - it was back to being top notch.
We had that one winner and if you want names to scores CLICK HERE for the results.
However no team can enjoy playing golf that gives up losses of 6&5, 5&4, 5&3, 5&3, 4&3 - especially when the opposition isn't churning our racks of birdies.
Your Captain 'took one for the team' (to use a Rugby expression) playing against the potential of the Wiltshire team who was in wedge - gimmie mode but as for the rest of our golf ....
There was one player who didn't make many mistakes (if any) and hit lots of good shots, in a row. As for the rest, they all freely admitted (or muttered) about no consistency.
We were up in several of the singles. We lost the foursommes to under par golf - but not that low scoring. Some matches made it to the 17th but we didn't hit that infamous green, especially when given the first opportunity.
Its over to you team - make Days 2 and 3 something to remember
