The ‘tail’ of the team was doing better but the first really good bit of news was an outstanding performance by Chris Doughill, 7 up at the turn and winning very quickly after that through being –5 for his 11 holes. Rob Browning provided more good news with another early win whilst Jack Sant was three up after nine. Evans was taking on one of the stalwarts of the Worcs Team, Laurence Noot and he turned all-square. Three holes later he was three up with six to play.
At the head of the singles, Sam Foster and Ben Stafford were playing the best two players from Worcs and both were finding things tough. They kept their respective matches close though and Ben had a crucial hole win towards the end of his match to stand on the 18th 1 up. He converted that lead into a point. Behind, Sam Foster was all square with one to play but lost when his opposition sank a monster putt on the 18th.
That result meant Warwickshire could and should win as Jack had converted his lead into another point.
Despite not making a birdie all afternoon, Andy Sullivan turned a deficit into a 3&2 win. Neil Taylor was dormie three down only to win all the finishing holes for a half a point. Andy Evans had also shaken hands, despite his opponent holing a 60 yard wedge for a half in birdies at the 16th.
Dale Marson was all square and on the 18th he played his best shot of the day, a wedge to three feet to add the final point to the match card – a big win in the end but it could have been very different.
