Matt Cryer (Coventry) will be off the 1st at 8.32, playing with one of our golfers who has a scholarship in the US, Jon Wetton (Nuneaton). At 8.48, the rejuvinated Gareth Jenkins (Kenilworth) will be in the thrEe ball which include past 1st Team Captain Bill Nicolson (Coventry).
The match before Rob (9.04) will feature Mens Trials winner Ben Stafford (Maxstoke) and Elliot James (Kenilworth) who won the Nett Trophy at last year's Amateur. Playing immediately after Steele will be an 'old' rivalry of David Harris (US Scholarship - Kenilworth) and Chris Evans (2003 Midland Boys Champion - Maxstoke), playing with Nick Clifford (Handsworth).
If John Stubbings, WU Secretary, were making the draw for a European Tour event, he could not have 'arranged' the major pairings which start from the 11th any better. The two Andys, Messr Colley and Jones from Ladbrook istelf, are off at 8.32 and 8.16 respectively. They are sure to attract plenty of members support. Jones will be playing with Rob Browning (Maxstoke) - Boys Trials winner and Beau Desert Stag Champion for 2004.
Another Junior 'star', Andy Sullivan is in the three ball of David Hayes (Coventry) and Oliver West (Robin Hood), off at 8.40. They will be followed at 9.04 by what is one of the best three balls of the day,all younger players who could have a great future - Tom Webber (Shirley) - part of the last Warwickshire Junior team to make the County Finals, Neil Taylor (Rugby) - one of the 2004 Juniors who will try to make it the National finals in two weeks time, and Ryan Burton (Nuneaton), fresh back from US University.
There are two more Juniors of note playing at the end of the 11th tee start times - Steve Mumford (Coventry Hearsall) and Andy Evans (Maxstoke). All in all, the 2004 Amateur promises to be a very close affair, contested by virtually all our best golfers - come along and you will be sure to see some excellent golf and a worthy champion.
