| Lucy s score was matched by Dale Marson but the Ashlawn Junior was looking at his gross performance as another recognition of how much work he has put into his game over the Winter.
Lucy plays off 25 and this was her last year at the Schools. Dale has several Junior years left and having reduced his handicap the day before, his matching par of 69 was an outstanding performance and will help him towards a target of scratch. Until he finished, the 70 by guest Ben Stafford was the best score, beating the 72 of last year runner-up Sam Foster, another player pushing towards having no shots. Holder Jak Hamblett couldn t find his form as was Andrew Sullivan struggling to hold onto any sort of round after a double bogey, double bogey start.
Jamie Melton had a fine 73 which earned him a place at the Midland Schools beating Chris Doughill by one and Robert Browning by two. There were good scores from many of the Warwickshire Juniors who are in their mid teens and who will play for the County side before they go into Senior golf. Mark Davies, with another year of Schools golf although he will be too old for County Junior selection managed a 77 which with Sam Foster s 72 was good defense of the Team trophy for Bablake - but not good enough. With Neil Taylor from Ashlawn also shooting 77, the new trophies were won by Taylor and Marson for a Rugby School not as well know as its famous town namesake, a school though which has three very talented golfers.
For a full report on the Girls Schools Championship, go to Warwickshire Ladies. It was fourth Championship in a row for Felicity Johnson with the third best gross score of the day. As preparation for defending her County Championship, Felicity was more than pleased and she included and run of three birdies followed by an eagle - plus a 4 putt and a three putt. Felicity followed up on retaining her Schools title for the last time with a win the following day in the Faldo series event at Woburn.
