The Warwickshire Matchplay and news of Open pre-Qualifying
Paul Randle, Amateur Champion for 2005, will be trying to complete the ýdoubleý on Friday and Sunday of this week by taking his place in the eight man draw for the Warwickshire Matchplay Championship at Robin Hood GC. The full draw is in this feature together with news of where some of the top players will be who could have played in the Matchplay ý they will be trying to qualify for the Open

Matt Cryer is defending Matchplay Champion but he will be in St Andrews for the weekend, as will Ryan Burton. Cryer won his place in the final stages of the process, where only 12 players for 480 will actually tee up next Thursday in the Open itself, by coming through a play-off at Little Aston.

Rob Steele also started his quest to play in the Open at Little Aston and he was in the Top 5 of qualifiers with a 70. For Ryan Burton, a 75 at Notts was also good enough to go directly into the draw. His rib injury which affected his play in the singles match for Warwickshire the day before was obviously much improved.

One player who missed that match was Louis Meryon, Runner-up in the Amatuer. Meryon has a back strain but is hopeful he can take his place in the Matchplay on Friday.

Burtons fellow club member from Nuneaton, Jon Wetton, did not make it through at Notts. Other Warwickshire players were at Trentham where for Ben Kruze, a 74 was just a couple of shots too many. Oliver West had a 77.
