Golf Destination of 2005 - The Algarve
The Portuguese National Tourist Office is delighted to announce that the Algarve has been awarded the prestigious accolade of 'Established Golf Destination of Year' by IAGTO.

The award, which was presented last month at the International Golf Travel Market in Gran Canaria, recognises Portugal's continued commitment to golf tourism and rewards their work in ensuring that the Algarve offers world-class golfing facilities for players of all levels and abilities. Fending off strong competition from destinations such as Arizona, California, Dubai, France and South Africa, this is the second time that the Algarve has been awarded this title, the previous occasion being in 2000.

Over 190 tour operators from thirty-five different countries cast votes for the award, scoring destinations on a range of criteria including client satisfaction, the quality of courses and accommodation, value for money, the professionalism of suppliers, the support of the local trade and the availability of tee-times.

Jose Antonio Preto da Silva, Director of the Portuguese National Tourist Office comments: "We are delighted to receive this award and thrilled that the Algarve's excellent golfing facilities have once again been recognised in this way. We are committed to ensuring that golfers visiting Portugal receive unrivalled facilities and world-class service and this prestigious accolade once again highlights the Algarve as one of the world's top golfing destinations."
