Warwickshire County Junior Order of Merit
This is detailed news of the changes to the Junior Order of Merit which will make it probably the best opportunity for any Junior in England to show how their golf is developing. The presentation at the 2006 Junior delegates AGM was started by Chairman of Junior Golf John Jewsbury. The actual 'nuts and bolts' were presented by David Morgan and those are included here, together with a PDF of the application form that a Club needs to use to join the 2006 JoM.

John said -

'In a very successful year, there have been two areas with which we have been less happy.

'The biggest problem we, as a committee, face is communication with the Clubs. A number of methods have been tried in the past, with no great result.

'David Morgan has been running a Junior Order of Merit for the County, which has received too little support. We have decided to combine these two problems in order to create one opportunity!

'I am going to ask David to explain the new competition to you, but first, I want to emphasise that we intend to make it our main source of information about the talent available. To make it work, we need you, the Clubs, to adopt the scheme and to run it locally on behalf of your juniors. I cannot over emphasise the importance of this to our Countyıs future. This is a major new initiative, which, we hope and expect will be the foundation stone for the future development of Warwickshire Junior Golf.

'The Competition will be sponsored by the Birmingham Post and Mail and will receive coverage accordingly. It is open to all Junior Golfers in Warwickshire Clubs. It will take account of all achievements: - within your Club, in team events, in Junior Opens and in County events. In 2006 we would like ALL junior golfers to participate. The competition will provide not only great fun, interest and incentive for all your juniors but will give invaluable feed-back to the County and ensure that the most talented juniors get recognition at County level. It will also provide a means for you to measure your own juniorsı progress. It is for all, not just the best. There will be prizes for age and handicap groups and every Club will have a Champion, eligible for a Grand Final at the end of the season.

'We are asking ALL clubs to adopt our plan. It needs you to make it work!

We really do need your co-operation in this venture.

I am tempted to paraphrase John F Kennedy - ıAsk not what your County can do for you, ask what you can do for your County!ı

'Over to David to tell you!'

That was the introduction to the new format JoM - this is the detail

JOINING AND RUNNING THE JOM FOR YOUR CLUB

A club needs to complete the Club Entry form - for a copy CLICK HERE- and return it together with a club entry subscription of ı45.00 (Forty-five pounds).

This entry fee covers any number of Juniors. There will be no individual registering or paying of JoM fees. This will allow any Junior who does not have easy web access to be on the JoM

Clubs should return this Club Entry form to John Jewsbury as soon as possible. Clubs will then be sent a JoM Management pack.

That will include a 'Help and Rules' guide which explains exactly how the JoM works.

The pack will include a points schedule and how to award points. There is an entry form for a club's juniors themselves.

This asks for basic details - name, handicap, DOB etc.

For a club to have their Juniors scoring points from the beginning of the season, this form must be returned by 20th March to score points in April.

Juniors can be added to a club's list by sending in additional names on a continuation sheet. For new players to score points subsequent entry forms must be received by the 20th of the month to be put on the JoM for the following month.

Points cannot be backdated. Its is recommended that a Club enters all its Juniors as an initial entry so as to avoid any disappointment Juniors who have only ıclubı handicaps can score JoM points for Club competitions at the discretion of their Organiser

All names will be entered by the web management. This will greatly reduce the work that a cub will have to do to start up the JoM for their club. The only work that a club will now be involved in is to enter points for their juniors playing in Club competitions.

Each club will decide on 10 club events as its opportunity for its Juniors to score points. It is recommended that these be Junior events although there is nothing to stop a club using its main competitions, where they are available to all juniors.

Junior Organisers need to have copies of the results for their selected 10 events, plus match records as their juniors will also score points for any match they play at or for their club that they win. Updating can be done in a few minutes once a month or after each event.

MAJOR EVENTS AND ENTRY FORMS

Around the middle of February, on the main section of this site and in ıCompetitionsı, will be a calendar of the ıMajorı Warwickshire Championships - the Boys, the U16s, the U14s, the U12s and the Warwickshire Schools.

Each date will have an entry form and conditions of entry as required available as a PDF to download.

The same will apply to over 20 Juniors Opens which will offer JoM points - entry forms easily accessible. Junior Opens are a great way for a golfer to find out how good their game is byt playing away from their home course.

Juniors should try to arrange their golfing calendar as soon as they are able and entries will be accepted immediately. The ıMajorsı are really a ımustı for any Junior of any handicap, especially those who have any ambitions to reach as low a handicap as they can.
