| He was evidently completely unfazed by the record 63 from Jarod Moseley that came in at lunchtime, just as Poulter was making his way from the 1st tee.
Moseley went out in 33, with more missed chances which he was patient about. Two more birdies followed at 10 and 11 and another at 15 when he holed a 40ft putt. The final three were all hitting the ball very close for that course record and the prizes that go with such as feat. One secret of Moseley’s round was that his wedge play has gone from being just about the worst on Tour to being the best after his coach Brad Gallant flew in from Singapore to work with him.
Few other were making any sort of inroads to Poulter’s lead. Steve Webster, with a caddie change and an attitude of not thinking about the game, just hitting the ball, had resulted in two 70’s which he followed up with a 69 for -7 and top 20 going into the final round.
Robert Rock was enjoying his third week on the full tour, another tournament where he has made the cut and looks like earning good money towards the £115 000 he will need to secure his card from just seven invites. This is actually his first invite as for both the B&H and the Volvo PGA, he qualified by right. He will play at the Forest of Arden next week in the Daily Telegraph British Masters and is applying for any tournament he can to complete the run of seven (actually nine) Tournaments that will make up his first season.
So to the final pairing of Poulter and Price. The Welshman could not have thought that two birdies in the first three would have resulted in him dropping back from Poulter but that was what happened after the toussle (and dyed) haired Englishman hit close on the first then even closer on the second - with an iron to the 613 yard hole - for a very short eagle putt.
Price was joined by Freddie Jacobsen in just a few minutes as the double Tour winner flew through the first five on the back nine with four birdies. One dropped shot was covered bya finishing four for a 64 and -13 .
