| In the morning semi finals, Fliss knew she had to get off to a good start because her opponent Kerry Evans had been playing so well in the previous two days. That Fliss did by starting birdie, par then eagle. Four up after the 12th, it was then Kerry's turn to apply some pressure -
'I birdied 13 and 14 but Fliss is so good its hard to come back - I have had a wonderful time in this my first week of Warwickshire Ladies golf and if selected, I would be delighted to play in County Week', said Kerry.
Tracy Atkin was never in her match against Claire Dowling in the second semi-final.
'I was very non-descript', said Tracy, 'I didn't get them (her putts) anywhere near the hole.'
'Each of us has won it six times - I counted up when I cleaned the trophy before bringing it back. I don't know what our head-to-head' match score is but it must be close!'
Fliss was one up after 13 in the final. She had a chance from 8ft at the next for a birdie to go two up lipped out. On the next, a par three, both missed the green right, Fliss not even finding the greenside bunker. That was a half in four and par was the halving score again at the sixteenth.
Both players were in excellent position for their wedges to the 17th. Neither hit great shots as both seemed conscious of trying to get close to the pin at the front of the green and spinning off. Each took three putts so Fliss still held the advantage going to the 18th.
Each of the finalists hit a superb tee shot at the 18th and Claire's approach was 20ft past the pin, just off the back of the green. Fliss went at the flag but pushed here shot and found a tough lie from where she could not chip and putt so it was off to the 19th.
Two more excellent tee shots followed and each player had an opportunity to go for the green. It was Fliss's turn first and she tugged her three wood. The ball did not find the short greenside bunker but missed it left. Claire then smacked here approach straighter. It drifted left though into the same bunker Fliss had narrowly avoided. Claire could not up and down her bunker shot. Fliss could chip close and it was with her beaming smile that Fliss shook hands with Claire.
'I hit the ball well and the putting stroke felt good. The ball just wouldn't drop this afternoon', said the new Champion, 'I have a week off next week, time for a bit of practise, then its time to defend!'
As usual the final was watched by tens of County Ladies whose support is always much appreciated by the players.
A big thank you also goes to the sponsors of the County Championships, Rydale Cars, for all their support.
