| Tom made threes at the two opening par fours with great wedge play. He cold not take advantage of the 3rd, the par five and made a mistake at the 4th to drop one of the shots he had gained.
Another went at the 7th and then one more at the 9th. It was a disappointing finish which dropped top to a share of 19th but he remained positive -
'I played nicely and it was fantastic to get to -6 but I didn't get back into my routine after three putting the 7th. My game got scrappy because my thinking became all messy '
'I played better today than yesterday', said Paul Broadhurst after his second round 72, two worse than the opening round.
'I hit the ball really well. I am driving it fantastic although the irons weren't that good.
'I was in a good position at the turn then on 10 I get a bit unlucky with my approach. It should have been close but it ends up over the green in a really shitty place.
'I hit it on the fairway on 13, get up to me ball and find it in a divot. I just hit it and hoped over the back and its a great chip to make par.
'The short putt on 15 for a birdie was bad. I was thinking make a birdie there and I am four under with a par five to come. On 16, I just had the wrong club - that was never going to get there!
''It was a little bit tricky out there, picking the breeze. Playing with Paul (Casey - the leader at -11) was great. He doesn't look like he is going to miss a shot, or a putt. I just need to get it together over the weekend.'
Steve Webster never got in with a chance of making the cut after an opening bogey. He did manage three birdies but took a seven on the short par four 13th and finished with a 77 to miss the cut by 6 -
'I hit it great off the tee and I am actually feeling better over the ball with the putter but I just didn't get it going this week.
'On the 13th I was 65 yards away after my drive then hit seven more shots with my sand wedge. I just hit it too far, over the back and into a bunker. I had three goes at getting it out.'
Steve will use the Belfry practice ground over the weekend, to prepare for Ireland next week.
