Missing from the draw will be two recent past Champions in Matt Cryer and Rob Steele, who through their membership of the EGU Senior squads, are required to play in the Lagonda Trophy.
Peter McEvoy, Champion many times in the 70s and 80s, will not be at his home course of Copt Heath. The club will however have a number of its members seeking a 'home' win - Simon Haines, Sam Hufton, Michael Topliss, Paul Harben and Michael Calvert.
There are a number of groups to highlight, players who are under consideration for both County teams and notably the County 6 qualifier in mid-June.
For the 1st tee in the morning (the 10th tee in the afternoon) are the following players -
At 8.16 is David Hayes, Presidents Putter winner this year, Anthony Gascoigne (third from last year) and Andrew Jones who was a medalist when the Championship went to Ladbrook in 2004.
8.40 sees the Defending Champion Paul Randle start his efforts to retain his title. He is playing with Gareth Jenkins who is the prospective County Captain for next year, plus Ben Stafford who was very much part of the successful Warwickshire Juniors side in 2003 and 2004, and whose individual titles include the Midland Boys Championship.
There are three players at US Universities in the field. Oliver West is off at 9.04. In the match after West is County Captain Graham Hargreaves. Graham is playing with John Wetton who put up a very good show last year, as well as winning some high class Midland Opens, together with 'veteran' Bill Nicolson who has already shown some impressive form in pres-season 1st team matches.
The match at 9.20 includes Andy Sullivan who won last year's Boys (including equaling the Sutton Course record), Ryan Burton (US Universities player) and Rory Kirwan, who did so much 'damage' to his handicap over 2005 as he achieved a plus handicap. Rory has already retained his Warwickshire Schools title.
Boys Captain Chris Doughill will play at 9.28 and the final match from the 1st tee in the morning features 2nds Captain Nick Clifford, last year's Runner-Up Louis Meryon and a face from the past - a very successful one at that!
Chairman of the EGU selectors, member of our successful County teams in the 80s and winner of numerous County and National titles. Andrew Carman is in the field for the centenary Amateur.
From the 10th tee in the morning, look out for the scores from some of the following -
Andrew Geraghty has won the last two strokeplay events he has entered - last year's U15s and this years' Boys Trials. Andrew may not win the Amateur but he is sure to play well. He is off at 8.24.
At 9.12, past Boys Captain Jak Hamblett is playing with Ben Groutage who was Runner-Up in the Amateur in 2002 at Walmley.
Andrew Evans showed how good a player he is at the 2005 Boys County Finals. He plays at 9.20 and in the match after that, Ben Senior tees off. Ben added a number of match points for the 1sts to his CV during the past two years.
The last pairing includes 2003 Runner-Up David Westwood and Rob Browning who was also part of the very successful Boys team from last year.
Graham Hargreaves, County Captain, had this to say about the field and what it will take to win -
'Its great to have a full field and when all is said and done, there is a lot of talent. I will be very interested in the results.
'Copt Heath is a very fair golf course. It rewards good golf and it punishes poor shots. The rough is growing all the time at this time of year. If Copt Heath set the course up with tight fairways, and it rains, then it will be very difficult indeed.
'138-139 would be a very good score - it just depends on the conditions.'
David Morgan has arranged, as a complete one-off, for a Professional Sports Photographer to be on the course all day, taking pictures of everyone playing. This photographer works on the European Tour and uses telephoto lenses etc.
This will ONLY be done for this the Centenary Amateur Championship and players will be able to have prints of themselves professionally produced for ?15.00 each print. Players can view the pictures in the clubhouse throughout the day and there will be someone there to take orders.
