| On Sunday 16th July, at the Alison Nicholas Academy Par 3 course, Victoria Mallet found the hole of the 8th green with her 36th and last allocated shot. The same feat was achieved by another Girl Bethany Griffin but on count-back over the last four holes, Victoria was the Champion on the day (by the skin of her teeth - just one shot making the difference) and secured a family trip to St Andrews in late August for the finals.
The win was achieved despite an injured ankle and Victoria received her prize from the past US Ladies Open Champion Alison Nicholas herself!!
Elizabeth qualified for the English Schools U16s by being not only the Warwickshire Schools Golf Champion but in addition, being the best U16s girl at that Championship. Having done very well in the Midland Schools, despite being easily the youngest girl at that event, Elizabeth was once again still competing against older girls, most of whom have also had lots more experience.
Chevin is a great golf course, made more difficult by its hillside location. The green were very fast, along with being slopy, and the fairways hard to stay on in what was one of the hottest days people could remember.
Elizabeth shot 90 then 87 and not happy with her scores, the result of a couple of bad holes and not putting as well as she would have liked. Its great to see players such as Elizabeth coming through at the same time as older girls such as Charlotte Dalton and Abbey Gittings are making their way in the Warwickshire Ladies Senior teams.
Staffordshire beat Warwickshire in County Week this year with a very young team, Warwickshire could reverse this result in the same way very soon. Confidence is a great thing and a must for low scores but whilst school has had to come first until this weekend, Elizabeth and all the other young girls will be looking forward to the Summer holidays when golf will take first place in their priorities Look out for some big handicap drops in the next few weeks!
