Another record breaking Girls Championship
This year it wasn?t the course record that was smashed but the temperature record! On the hottest day for years the girls contended with heat, intense sunshine, plus a firm, fast course at Leamington & County Golf Club. This all added up to difficult scoring but the afternoon round produced a below handicap round of 70 for Alice Young and 72s for Hannah Coles and Lauren Clark-Hughes.

The winner of the Championship and holder of the Edgbaston Cup was Hannah Coles, Maxstoke Park with 81,77= 158. Charlotte Dalton, Ladbrook Park, was runner up to claim the Stratford Cup. Abbey Gittings, Walmley, edged out Lauren Clark-Hughes, Coventry Finham, on the back 18.

The Estelle Goodman Cup for the handicap winner went to Alice Young of Kenilworth with 75,70= 145, just beating Lauren Clark-Hughes by 1. Sam Stanley from Coventry Finham had 2 steady rounds to bring her third place. Lauren took the putting prize, beating Abbey on the back 9.

The Pam Large Cup for the best gross in the 18 holes? competition was won by Chloe Smith of Edgbaston with 93, the Harborne Cup went to Sarah Withey, Coventry Finham, with 73, on the back 9 from Chloe. The youngest competitor, Charlotte Taylor from Rugby won the putting prize.

Hannah Coles (U18) and Abbey Gittings (U16) will go forward to the Midland Champions of Champions at Kingsthorpe GC, Northampton in September.

Not only are the girls to be congratulated for getting round the course but also the spectators. Thanks to Leamington & County for staging the event and preparing the course so well in such weather and also the members that helped so make the day run smoothly.
