| The U14s is over 27 holes, 18 in the morning and 9 after lunch. Both Sam Teather and Jamie Carney have low single figure handicaps and were the favorites on the day. They played in the company of Nathan Ray who has another year of qualification for this event - Nathan came third with a 79 in the morning and 39 in the afternoon (+10 for the 27).
Sam and Jamie were tied at +5 after the first 16 before Jamie hit a pitching wedge to 10ft at the 17th and a sand wedge to 15ft at the last for two closing birdies to take a two stroke lead to his lunch. If anything, Jamie would rue his play on the par fives over the whole day as he had two sixes in that opening 18.
Jamie?s started the final nine with a bogey so the lead was one shot. Sam was putting for a birdie on the next but it was Jamie who made his advantage go back to two with a wedge to 6ft at the third, and that was just the start as Jamie made a four at the par five 4th - as did Sam to stay two back.
The pin on the par three fifth was right at the front of the green, Sam had a birdie put as did Jamie. Jamie made his from 12ft so the lead was three for the Shirley star. The next was crucial.
Both Sam and Jamie played short of the par five in two. Jamie hit his approach first and found the front of the green, Sam picked a nine iron and hit a perfect approach for a tap-in birdie. Jamie three putted so his lead was back to one and on the next, Sam struck first with a fairway wood to fifteen feet.
Jamie missed the green of this tough par three right and took bogey. Sam two putted for par so the lead shared. Neither could break free with both having chances on the 8th. That all amounted to a tied score but the Championship went to Sam for his last nine hole score - two under par gross!
This was Sam's first Warwickshire championship. The signs of his very good form were there though when he took the Hollywood Bowl the week before, at the Gay Hill Junior Open.
Full scores will appear shortly.
