The 2006 Junior Order Of Merit Championship
Saturday 7th October - The West Midlands Golf Club - START LIST and details. 24 of Warwickshire's best Juniors, those off the lowest handicaps together with many who have joined our County squads by reducing their handicaps to the levels where they could soon be playing competitive scratch golf for the foreseeable future, will be teeing it up at the West Midlands GC this Saturday in pursuit of the JOM Championship and the final batch of (huge) points which will decide the 2006 JOM itself.

Just like the Tour Professionals with their own Orders of Merit and end of season finales, the Warwickshire Junior Order of Merit has been fought for year long. Just like 2005 when Colin Montgomerie was 'in battle' with Michael Campbell at Valderrama, this year's Warwickshire JOM is not over by any means.

With 3000 JOM points going to the winner of the JOM Championship, any one of probably 10 players in the field could take the JOM itself this Saturday, and with it the superb new trophy sponsored by the Birmingham Post & Mail, plus the first prize (one of many) provided by Titliest.

The qualifiers for the JOM Championship will play 18 holes of handicap stableford. This form of competition will mean that anyone reaching the West Midland GC's feared 18th, surrounded with water just like the 17th at Sawgrass for the PGA Tour Players Championship, can only drop 2 points should they find the water. If the JOM Championship were a medal, it might not finish until next year!

The field comprises the Top 16 players on the JOM as of Monday 2nd October, together with the best player from any club who are not represented in the Top 16. Any withdrawals do not go to the next place on the JOM or to the next best player from a club. These are one-off invitations!

With 24 players in the field for the JOM Championship, points will be awarded to the Top 12 and ties.

Points will be -

There is no entry fee for the JOM Championship. Entry fees for other Warwickshire Union competitions normally include food for competitors - with no entry fee, no food is provided directly but the West Midlands Golf Club has a bar and cafe restaurant where the cards will be handed in.

The menu is extensive with burgers, all sorts of other meals and every sort of refreshment a player or supporter would want. Please be aware that with the presentations taking place very shortly after the last card is handed in, the clubhouse is likely to be busy with both this championship and other golfers who have played the West Midland Course. Please pre-order, if you want, for food especially

The presentations will be made by John Stubbings, President of the Warwickshire Union. Jackets and ties are not required BUT please bring with you smart casual clothes if you are a prize winner (or expect to be!) as photos will be taken for both this web site and for the Birmingham Post feature on the JOM.

The presentations will be for -

1) Individual club champions who do not feature in the Top 3 of the JOM itself.
