Warwickshire Cup 2006 / 2007 - 1st Round Update
This is the completede draw for the Warwickshire Cup for this season after R1 of the matches. For the draw sheet CLICK HERE. In these first matches there were two notable results. Firstly, in the 'battle' between the two south Birmingham clubs situated either side of Solihull, Hatchford Brook came out as winners against Robin Hood. The 'heavyweight' clash was between Maxstoke and Atherstone, each a past winner of the Bainbridge Shield plus Maxstoke were 2004/5 champions in the Warwickshire Cup itself.

Atherstone were to host Maxstoke and knowing the task ahead, Maxstoke's Warwickshire Cup Captain Antony Gascoigne was looking to take one of his strongest teams.

'Players such as Ben Senior don't play over the Winter, along with a few others, but I was happy with my team. I lost one player who was going to Australia that day,' said Gascoigne.

Unfortunately when the Maxstoke team arrived at Atherstone, they were a player short through a mix-up in dates. One match down therefore, Gascoigne paired himself with Rob Browning and they managed a win. Unfortunately even Amateur Champions can lose in these very tight matches, as did 2006 Amateur winner Ben Stafford, playing with Shaun Delaney - so Maxstoke were out and Atherstone through.
