50 DAYS AND COUNTING TO THE COUNTY GOLF SEASON
It is 50 days and counting until the start of the County Competitive golf season - at least the first strokeplay championship as matches and Midland tournaments will take place even in March! If you want to play in a Warwickshire Championship or one of more than 70 Club Opens and Midland Championships spread through 2007, please click on 'COMPETITIONS' on the LH navigation for an event Calendar where you can download entry forms with just a 'click' of your mouse.

News of Matches and notably how our young team gets on in the Midland U14s next month will be here.

'You can't win with kids,' said a sports commentator a few years ago. John Jewsbury, Chairman of Junior Golf, and his management team have selected a group of very young players for the U14s (even bearing in mind the age limits) to play in this inaugural U14s Team championship. They are a very talented team and will have no fear of older (and larger) golfers' abilities. How well they do, we wait to see, but maybe they will defy the odds as did Alex Ferguson's players who were the subject of the aforementioned comment.

This team includes players who will play in the Warwickshire Masters U12s in April. If you are an U12 golfer or the parent or guardian of a young golfer, do try to enter this Championship. It is sure to be a breeding ground for the Champions of the future.

The Warwickshire Union AGM will take place on Thursday 15th March at Copt Heath Golf Club. It marks the end of our Centenary Year and the start of the next 100 years of Warwickshire Golf. This is a time of change as golf becomes more and more generally popular but clubs are having to be innovative in attracting visitors and members.

One stroke from qualifying for the Junior County Finals together with making the Top 4 and therefore the Mens County championship, and the Midland League 2nds title, represent a very good year for Warwickshire and for all the work done by the Union in management of its historic Championships and the teams which give the opportunity for a Club's best players to compete at the highest level.

You are encouraged to attend this meeting, through your club's Council Member (or their representative), as it is always informative on how the Union is actively working on, and being involved in, the development of the game of golf. Warwickshire are the forefront of Amateur golf and each years' AGM is where plans are outlined/explained for the future, together with extensive reporting of the previous year.

Features for the coming weeks will include the final thoughts of the Centenary County Captain Graham Hargreaves, extensive report on the WUGC AGM, news of the County Squads for this year, and more on the Junior Order of Merit.

In 'Features' we have tried to keep any golfer entertained throughout the Winter months and we will do so into the Spring and then for the whole of golf season.
