| After the 2006 minutes were read and approved, and changes to councillors detailed, the meeting then accepted the comprehensive run through of the accounts from Treasurer John Powell, including how the reserves for the Centenary and for our reaching a County final were used in 2006.
Your Treasurer then went into the proposal for the Union to become incorporated (a limited company), following in the footsteps of the EGU, the MGU and our neighbors Staffordshire. Incorporation limits the liability of the Union and all those who are part of it from rogue claims. Its only disadvantage (if any) is that accounts will have to be filed each year at Companies House and that they will be available to the public.
The process will start with a 'white paper' which will be circulated to all clubs in the next few weeks. There will then be an EGM later in the Summer with incorporation planned for 1st November 2007.
The meeting then moved to appointment of officials. Your President, Secretary, Treasurer, Match Secretary, 2nds Team Captain Chairman of Junior Golf were all nominated and re-appointed
The first new proposed appointment was John Duncombe (Olton) as Vice President. John has been part of Warwickshire golf as a player and as an official since the 70s - it was remarked that John has 'done everything', something that can be said of very few.
The second new proposed appointment was Gareth Jenkins (Forest of Arden) as First Team Captain, proposed by Graham Hargreaves the departing Centenary Captain and the man who gave Gareth his first cap for Warwickshire and Gareth's first place in the County 6s team.
The County Membership Scheme Manager was also vacant and nominated for that position was Past President Jim Dean (Kenilworth), to run the scheme for the next year in tandem with another Past President Tony Reading.
Sam Dodds (Coventry) was proposed as Boys Captain and a new member of the Executive Ernie Steene.
All these appointments were approved unanimously, as was the nomination of Graham Hargreaves (Ladbrook Park) to become a Vice-President, in recognition of all Graham has done both in the Centenary year and in the past three decades as a player and Captain.
Reports were then received from the Captain, from the Junior Management committee and the MGU and EGU.
Record entries had been received for the Bainbridge Shield and the Warwickshire Cup in 2006, whilst the Centenary Celebrations were all very successful, despite the weather curtailing one of the special days for clubs.
There was a presentation on how the County Card Scheme is developing from Treasurer John Powell. There are now 28 Warwickshire Clubs in the scheme, each offering half price green fees to card holders (only Card Scheme Club members can participate by taking out a County Card for just £ 12.00 for the year).
The scheme now extends to include Northants, Nottinghamshire, Worcestershire and for 2008, Gloucestershire.
The final presentation was made by David Morgan on success of this web site. David detailed how the site continues to grow, including this year more than 70 Club Opens listed with entry forms on 'COMPETITIONS' on the LH nav.
New for 2007 will be a new site 'look' (for later in the Summer). The site also will have a pod cast for download of the 2007 Amateur championship and for a trial period an 'E-mails to the Editor page'. More details of this will follow.
That concluded the 2007 Warwickshire Union AGM.
