| The route to the final was very different for both clubs - Copt Heath won all their matches 3-0 bar the encounter with Kenilworth. The Warwickshire reached the final with 2-1 wins, their strength in depth coming through when their regular Pair 1 of Ben Bernamont and Dan Baskott were turned over on a couple of occasions.
That form showed in the early stages of the final as Pair 1 for Copt Heath (of Chalkley and Cox) came through a very close match winning 1up against Bernamont and Baskott when the Warwickshire tee shot down the long 18th was lost -
'They finished like we started - with an errant tee-shot where we didn't find the ball', said soon to be father Peter Chalkley, rushing off straight after the presentations for a tour of the hospital where his new child will be born.
Chalkley will be in the field for the 2007 Amateur, as may well be Cox who can regularly be found refereeing on the European Tour (he works for the PGA) and will have been on duty the week before this year's premier Warwickshire Championship, at the BMW, maybe gaining some inspiration as Cox looks to a first Warwickshire individual title
Match 3 seemed to always be heading to Copt Heath early on. A string of pars put Paul Harben and David Fleet (Bainbridge winners for Copt Heath in 2005) 5 up after 8 holes. Back though came Warwickshire Boys Captain Sam Dodds and his partner Simon Franklin. The Warwickshire pair chipped in then holed two good putts to be only 1 down with three to play.
Up ahead, in Match 2, Sam Hufton and Simon Haynes were two up early on. Ian Stranks and Paul Burns got one back and had a number of chances to establish their own lead when the match went all-square. It stayed that way right through the final few holes, Burns producing an excellent recovery after a Stranks approach flew the 17th in the cold and windy conditions.
Going down the 18th, both pairs had putts for pars. Haynes went first from 5ft and missed so the Warwickshire had a three footer to take that match. When they missed, the Cup was gone as their match was halved because back up the hill, on the 16th green, David Fleet had hit an 8 iron to four feet for a winning birdie which took Copt Heath 3 into a dormie 2up lead.
Match three ended on the 17th with Copt Heath taking the Cup 2.5 to 0.5 so it was back to the newly refurbished clubhouse. Warwickshire Club Captain Bob Gee presented the trophy to Copt Heath Team Captain Paul Harben who thanked Bob on behalf of both teams for the superb hospitality The Warwickshire gave - bacon butties at the half way house then a post final lunch.
Ben Bernamont could not stay for long as he was to play in The Warwickshire's Winter League final that afternoon, partnering Ben Kruze. Meanwhile, about 100 miles south of our County, past Warwickshire Amateur Champion Rob Steele was Runner-Up in the Sunningdale Foursomes, playing with Ben Freeman.
