'We lost our opening match against Leicestershire at Ludlow last Wednesday', said Geoff, 'The score in the morning was 3 1/2, 2 1/2 to Warwickshire, which was turned into a heavy defeat 4-2 in the afternoon, resulting in a points score of 6 1/2, 5 1/2.In favour of Leicestershire

'Some notable performances came from Mike Dayus playing with Tony Featherstone who won both am and pm. Also Tom Coughlan playing with Fred Tebbs also won both their matches.

'Other notable events were the Captain forgetting the free Warwickshire golf ball for each competitor.

' When he was questioned on the subject, his reply was that he hadn?t forgotten them but had left them on the stairs at home!

'John Roles also made the headlines on his debut for Warwickshire by forgetting his jacket, shirt and tie only to be greeted in the car park, after playing, by his wife and daughter who had driven from Stratford to avoid any embarrassment on his debut!

'I struggle to get into the English Seniors off 6 so playing this year (6th, 7th and 8th June) and then qualifying was tremendous', said Geoff after his second round of 79 gave him 158 and the chance to play the final Round of English Seniors Championships at Enville GC.

The first two round were played by 240 competitors so Geoff's achievement was superb (to make the top 60) and Tom Coughlan and Mike Dayus both made it through as well - Tom plays regularly in the matches and was first round leader of the English Seniors with his opening 72. He added an 81 to make it through.

Mike Dayus had a 78 in R1 and improved on that score by 3 with a 75 for the same 153 as Tom.
