| With bunkers full of water, and long greens protected by said wet sand, missing a green was a big problem. Elizabeth played the front nine very well, in just two over par. The winner, and retaining the title she first won in 2004, was Hannah Barwood from Avon - Hannah plays off scratch.
After nine holes, Elizabeth was right there in contention. Unfortunately a run of single bogeys was followed by a triple and Elizabeth finished with an 84, seven shots back from Barwood.
Elizabeth has at least five more years of being able to compete in the English Schools and its a trophy that not even Fliss Johnson managed to win - in fact no Warwickshire girls has ever won the Girls title in the 29 years of the Championship.
So maybe Elizabeth will 'do a Tiger' and put that record on her wall, to cross off at some later date. Elizabeth will go to Thetford next month, along with Hannah McLoughlin, to play in the ESGA U16s. For this event Elizabeth will be one of the favorites.
It would be wonderful if Elizabeth, Hannah and Alice Young who have all done very well in Schools Golf events had more Warwickshire 'competition' when they do battle it out for the silverware in the coming years so calling all other Warwickshire Girls - these are championships that have been won by some very talented golfers such as
Janet Soulsby (you will need to ask someone a bit older how good Janet was!), Laura Fairclough, Kerry Smith, Kelly Hanwell, Lisa Walters, Fame Moore and the like!
Could you join them?
Good luck to Elizabeth and Hannah!
