| The unforgettable sequence of top-flight golf tees off with The Barclays Scottish Open at the picturesque Loch Lomond, near Glasgow, from July 12-15 and is followed immediately by The Open Championship, which will be played over the Championship Course at Carnoustie for the first time since Scotland?s Paul Lawrie lifted the Claret Jug at the Angus venue in 1999.
This year Tiger Woods will be eager to clinch his third Open title in a row, following victories at St Andrews in 2005 and at Hoylake last year.
And from July 26-29, The 2007 Senior Open Championship, presented by Aberdeen Asset Management will bring the month to a thrilling climax on the renowned links at Muirfield.
The cream of international Senior professionals will head to East Lothian to challenge for the replica Claret Jug and the bulk of a US $2 million prize fund, including six-time Major Champion Nick Faldo who is set to make his debut as a senior golfer.
Faldo, who previously won The Open at Muirfield in 1987 and 1992, will take his place alongside a host of former Major winners already confirmed for the Championship. This list includes Ben Crenshaw, Tom Kite, Gary Player (the only man to have won The Senior Open Championship on three occasions), Scott Simpson, Craig Stadler and Tom Watson, while other past Major winners eligible to play include Seve Ballesteros, Wayne Grady, Tony Jacklin, Mark O'Meara, Greg Norman and Nick Price.
Scotland's own Sam Torrance, the reigning European Seniors Tour Number One, will certainly not be lacking in support as he hopes to wrest the trophy from 2006 winner Loren Roberts of the United States.
After The Senior Open Championship at Muirfield draws to a close, women?s golf will take centre stage with the Ricoh Women?s British Open on The Old Course at St Andrews, Fife, from August 2-5 when former winner Annika Sorenstam of Sweden will lead the field hoping to emulate American Sherri Steinhauer's success at Royal Lytham & St Annes last year.
VisitScotland area director for Edinburgh and Lothians, Ben Carter, said:
'To be hosting four major golfing tournaments in 2007 is great news and an excellent opportunity to showcase the fantastic golf offering we have here in Scotland. Not only that, but staging these events back-to-back over four weeks will bring an unrivalled boost to the Scottish economy.
'I am particularly delighted that East Lothian?s legendary golf course at Muirfield is hosting The 2007 Senior Open Championship. Having also hosted The Open Championship in previous years, Muirfield has been played by some of the world?s greatest golfers and this year?s Senior Open will undoubtedly be another spectacular tournament for players and spectators alike.'
