| The morning saw three big wins for Warwickshire and one for Staffordshire. Match 1 was the key to either just a point's lead or two. Having been four down after four, Dan Baskott and Sam Dodds got back to just one in arrears at the 13th only to lose the next.
They found themselves wide of the 15th with the Staffs No1 pairing just six feet from the flag and putting for a birdie. Dan chipped into halve that hole.
The next was shared in pars and we were now dormie two down, so Sam simply hit his tee shot at the 17th to 6ft, for a winning birdie, then flew the ball the better part of 250 yards onto the edge of the 18th, from where Dan again chipped in, this time for another winning eagle.
Warwickshire have 'wobbled' in recent matches. It looked that way again when the middle order all started coming through the 16th and 17th without a lead or down. Sam Dodds was well up but had to go the 18th, although his foursomes partner Baskott was a winner before the last two.
Newly off scratch, Rob Bardsley did convert his early form into a 2&1 win, to counter the loss in Match 4 from Andy Bate on the last green. Richard Tidman, in Match 6, was dormie two down and took his game to the 18th to no avail.
Dodds eventually won on the 18th green so leaving his team to find one and a half points for another 8-7 victory. The half a point was provided by Michael McCormack, new Mens Matchplay Champion. The point came from Jamie Carney, who was completely out-gunned from the tee by Staffordshire's new Boys Champion James Willis, but kept up the pressure for all of the 17 holes they played before winning 2&1.
With the win sealed, and knowing that Worcestershire have already beaten our team's last opponents of the season Shropshire & Herefordshire, so allowing a draw in that match to take the League, it was now a question of increasing our points difference by a bigger margin.
Andrew Geraghty converted his dormie down situation into a half and Chris Freeman, who was four up at the turn, won on the 16th, so that left 'new boy' James Yearsley out on the course. James had a great debut for the Boys team, wining 2 up, to make the overall result 10.5 - 4.5
