ESPN CLASSIC HONOURS THE SENSATIONAL SPANIARD SEVE BALLESTEROS
Following the sad announcement this week from Seve Ballesteros that he will be retiring from golf, ESPN Classic is proud to announce it has scheduled a special documentary exploring the impact this wonderful player had on the sport throughout his career. The Champions Story: Seve Ballesteros will be shown on ESPN Classic (Sky Channel 442) on Thursday, 19th July at midnight, Saturday, 21st July at 10am, and Tuesday 24th July at 7pm.

Seve is one of the most charismatic and personable players to have ever been involved in the game of golf. He became the first European to win a major since 1907 when he triumphed in The Open Championship in 1979, a feat he repeated in 1984 and 1988. He also triumphed twice in the US Masters to receive a green jacket at Augusta in both 1980 and 1983.

A passionate team player, he helped Europe bridge the gap and ultimately achieve superiority over the US in The Ryder Cup, being a prominent member of the team through the 1980's and 1990's.

His partnership with Jose Maria Olazabal was the most successful in the history of the competition, winning eleven matches and losing only two. He then captained the winning European team in 1997 at Valderrama in Spain, the first time the Ryder Cup was hosted on the continent.

The Champions Story: Seve Ballesteros looks back on his amazing Open career, from his humble beginnings in Northern Spain to his dominance of the game on the greatest stage.

Told through the eyes of the former Champion himself - his likes, dislikes, successes, near-misses, greatest shots and most memorable moments - and by those contemporaries close at hand who recount not only tales of his extraordinary talent, but also his determination to be the greatest golfer of his time.
